Family Heirloom Book (Part 2)

Well, here I am back again with the next installment of the photos of my book, so if you're ready, off we go ......

So as you can see there are lots of places to add photos.  With the 'Christmas' page the tutorial only gives instructions for two mini albums, but since there are three children in my family, I added an extra one so that each of my boys gets one, instead of having to have two children in one mini (if that makes sense?).

I suppose you're wondering what the front of the book looks like ....

.... the spine has multiple ribbons around it (mostly decorative) and the covers are adhered to the front of the first page and back of the last page ....

.... and is quite bulky, and this is without any photos!

After the amount of work that went into this book, it is definately having photos added.

Family Heirloom Book (Part 1)

Wooohooo!!!  I have finally finished my Jane Tregenza book after starting it last August - PHEW!!!  Now to search through and add my photos and call it my "Family Heirloom Book".   This book was made following the tutorial over 9 months and can be found on the Graphic 45 site (left column, click on Jane's Book Tutorials).

Each double page has pockets and sleeves and mini albums on which to add photos and/or journaling.  So as to not bore you with oodles of photos I'm going to show you the book over a couple of posts.

Doctor Who & Supanova

Supanova is on again at Homebush this weekend.  Two members of my family are there on their respective stands, DH on Doctor Who and DS#2 on Hobbyco.  I recently became the owner of some Doctor Who stamps (thanks to Kat) so I made a few cards to add to the merchandise for sale.

All the images were stamped onto watercolour paper before colouring using SU watercolour pencils which blend beautifully.  They were then fussy cut and popped onto dimensionals.

The TARDIS was easy - straight lines.

Fish fingers & custard - colourwise, easy until I asked DH what colour the bowl was. His answer "clear".  "Oh wonderful" thinks I, "how am I supposed to do that?"  So I stamped the image onto acetate, cut around the bowl and positioned it over the top of the yellow custard - not too bad!  The green check underneath is a piece of washi tape to represent the tablecloth.

Statue of Liberty - verdigris,  hmmm, two greens blended together.

Weeping Angels - this was the hardest (and I made it colour, which was wrong).  So, I restamped it leaving the angel uncoloured, but added  colour to the plinth she's leaning on.  And so I didn't have to start over, I glued the uncoloured angel directly over the coloured one.

Around half the cards sold yesterday, the favourite being the TARDIS, so I quickly made a few more last night to top them up.

It's another cold, wet, miserable day again but this afternoon I'm off to a SU New Catalogue Launch party.  Unfortunately I can't stay long, but hopefully long enough to catch up with a few people.

Mr Popco, the Fisherman

Good morning to you on this crispy cool start to the day.  We seem to be missing half our family members this morning with DH and DS#2 both at Supanova at Homebush.  DH is on the Doctor Who stand (where else?) and DS#2 is on the Hobbyco stand.  DS#1 has gone caving at Bungonia (Goulburn), brrrrrr, that's going to be cold but he has his thermals so hopefully he'll be a bit warmer.  DS#3 is still snug in bed and Frostie (the cat) is curled up in front of the heater - oh to be a pampered pussy!   Poor Spike (the dog)  is curled up in his cosy kennel on the back porch, but he has lots of warm blankies in there to be toasty warm!

Anyhow ....... CASology's theme this week is "fish" so I fished out (pun intended) a cute little stamp called "Popco as Fisherman" by Leane Creatief designs, and here 'tis ......

I coloured him with Distress Markers, layered on a border of SU 'pacific point' on two sides and popped up on dimensionals onto SU 'whisper white' cardstock.  On the inside I repeated the 'pacific point/whisper white' layer.

I Love You Little Rabbit

As mentioned in my last post, my BFF and I enjoyed a lovely day out at the Craft & Quilt Fair at Darling Harbour last Friday.  This Fair was celebrating 20 years and included a wonderful display of quilts in all colours of the rainbow.  So much work goes into each and every quilt and I can only wonder at how long some of them take to finish.  Also on display were some of last years HSC student's creations, simply breathtaking.   And contrary to what you may have thought, we were both very good when it came to spending our $$$.  The Fair has a variety of stalls, many of them being fabric for quilts, along with beading and papercraft and so my stash consisted of one stamp set, one roll of washi tape and a little clip-on LED light.  Now, IF we had gone to Brisbane to the Papercraft Festival, we would have spent a LOT more $$$ because it is ONLY papercraft (sigh - maybe next year)!!!

When I was at work yesterday I realised my 'owl' nametag was starting to look a bit tired and I suddenly realised the new stamp I'd bought on Friday would be perfect for a new tag.

She is from the GORJUSS range and is called "I Love You Little Rabbit".  These stamps are a bit hard to find so when I saw her on the stand, I didn't hesitate in buying her.  I realised when I went to stamp her that she was perfect for making a 3D image as she is really easy to layer.

I stamped her three times on watercolour paper and coloured her using Distress Markers which blend so easily before fussy cutting around each of the areas to be layered.  To ensure that her legs and the rabbit wouldn't get creased, I also stamped her onto a piece of acetate and adhered all the layers together.  I really don't like using pins on the back of my tags as I'm always worried they'll snare threads and so I popped a little peg on instead - easy peasy!

There is also a frame in this stamp set which will be so useful for all sorts of projects but wasn't needed for this tag.

...... I am being fabulous

Wow! Do I have an ego or what?  No, not really, just the words on my card, another Feminine Newsprint.  I'm on a bit a roll with these cards at the moment, but they are fun to make and so I have decided to do them as my July class at Pages 2 Scrap (hope someone, [anyone?] books into it).

This week at CASology, the theme is "yellow" and since this set of cards is a combination of yellows, reds and oranges, I thought it might just 'fit the bill'.

The background is Distress Ink 'mustard seed', 'vintage photo'  a teensy bit of 'fired brick' and finished with a touch more 'mustard seed'.  The dress and hat is from Dylusions "Mini Couture" which has been stamped in Archival 'jet black' on Kaisercraft "Remember Me - Estella" collection DSP.  The words are Dylusions "Say It How It Is" and are two quotes re-jigged.

Tomorrow my BFF and I are heading to the Craft & Quilt Fair at Darling Harbour.  There will be lots to look at and hopefully we won't get too carried away on buying things - if we do, just don't tell our DH's !!!

12 Tags of 2013 - June

It's Queen's Birthday this weekend, which means an extra day off today.  So why did our phone ring at 6.50am this morning and when answered, no one was there?  Grrrrrrr !!!  So back under the warm blankies I dived, only to have weird dreams.  Anyhow .......

Over at Tim Holtz' "12 Tags of 2013 - June" he has demo'd how to use Distress Markers to blend and add shadows, along with  other great tips, to create a really terrific tag, so I thought I'd join in too.  I don't own the stamp set he demo'd, so I've used "Vintage Things Blueprint" clock image instead.

I've followed Tim's steps starting with stamping the image onto watercolour paper, which allows the colours to blend really well.   I've used 'broken china', 'wild honey' and 'peeled paint' on the clock face and 'fired brick' on the hands and bells, and 'weathered wood' for shadows on the blueprint lines.

Next came the background on the tag and again using Tim's steps, I splodged Distress Ink 'stormy sky' along with Distress Stain 'wild honey' and 'forest moss' on the craft sheet, spritzed with water and dragged the tag through to create the mix of colours.  After heat drying, the words ("Warehouse District") were added.  To finish off, Distress Stain was swiped over a length of seam binding ribbon and heat dried. A few drops of colour on the water brush were flicked onto the clock image, and it's finished.

Thanks Tim for sharing your step by step tutorial.

Celebrate with Wheels

The theme this week at CASology has been "wheels" and since I don't own any vehicle stamps (ie cars, trains etc) I had to have a little think.  Stampin' Up have a set ("Feeling Sentimental") with a phone box, penny farthing and ferris wheel, so with this in mind I decided on the ferris wheel.

I've stamped it in Archival 'jet black' before adding just a touch of colour to each of the swings.  The word 'celebrate' is also part of this stamp set, which is quite versatile for different occasions.  The 'whisper white' card is mounted on 'pacific point' which in turn is mounted onto a 'whisper white' card base.  Stamps and cardstock used in this card are all Stampin' Up!

Feminine Newsprint Cards

Today I've been putting the finishing touches to my Feminine Newsprint Cards ready for tomorrow's class at Alice in Paperland.  I have to say I've quite enjoyed making these fun, quirky cards but the hardest part is tearing out that first page from a book!!

I picked up a book for a couple of $$$ at my local charity shop but didn't dare tell them that I wasn't planning on reading it, I just wanted to tear it up!  It's an Australian book written in the early 1940's and is set in The Great Dividing Range, somewhere between the Blue Mountains and the NSW/Queensland border.  I keep reading snippets on the pages I'm tearing out and it actually sounds quite an adventure from a young boy's perspective.  There are some sketch drawings along with some old black & white photos, even a couple of poems scattered between the chapters.

The stamps on these cards are Dylusions "Mini Couture" and "Say It How It Is" with just a touch of background stamps Tim Holtz "Warehouse District" and Kaisercraft "Porcelain Rose".

The heads have been snipped out of the Good Weekend magazine in last Sunday's newspaper.

The patterned paper came from the boxes of discontinued paper that Alice always has, sometimes there are multiple pages, other times only one or two, so if you like it, take it while you see it or it won't be there next time you look.

The backgrounds on all these cards are Distress Inks,' vintage photo', 'fired brick' and 'mustard seed', with the images stamped in Archival 'jet black'.

I hope the ladies in class tomorrow have just as much fun with these cards as I did in making them.

Happy crafting!
